About Laurel
Laurel Etheridge is a certified Professional Geriatric Care Manager who has devoted the last 20 years of her career providing care and services to individuals and families coping with the challenges of aging. Laurel has provided Care Management services to hundreds of elders and their families and has managed several prestigious Bay Area programs and care settings for older adults.
Laurel has direct experience with hundreds of individuals in a variety of care settings and has had hands-on experience with different approaches that work. Having worked in the full continuum of care she understands the 'system' and can quickly identify and explain how things work, who pays for what, and what entitlements you may qualify for.
Laurel has served as a Director and Care Manager with Eldercare Services, a Geriatric Care Management and Caregiving company. Laurel has been the Executive Director of Senior Access Adult Day Health and Alzheimer's Care and WindChime of Marin, a dementia-specific assisted living community. She served as the founding Center Director of the Institute on Aging's ground-breaking PACE program; On Lok Senior Health by IOA/UCSF (now On Lifeways).
Laurel currently serves as a Dementia Care Specialist for the Alzheimer's Foundation of America's "Excellence in Care" program, a nationwide initiative setting high quality of care standards in care settings that provide care to individuals with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias.
Laurel is a professional member in good standing with the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers and is certified by the National Association of Care Manager Certification. She holds current certification as an administrator of Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly. A former Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), Laurel began her career in geriatrics as a Recreation Therapist and Consultant in Long Term Care and Hospital settings.
Working with Laurel has been a godsend. Being given the responsibility for taking care of my mother by both my brothers and father was a welcome burden, but a burden nevertheless. Having Laurel available to my family to provide counseling and wisdom as well as the wonderful rapport she has developed with my mother has been a huge relief, a great help and she does it all with humor, compassion and, most of all, an enormous amount of patience (mostly with me).
