About Sharon Mussington-Lewars

Sharon Mussington-Lewars RN, MSN, CCM, founder and nurse care manager of Cherry Dependable Home Care, and this is my story....

Growing up in Jamaica I was fortunate to have an extended family. I now know that my paternal great grandmother back then had dementia, I am sure my grandmother not having a formal education and knowledge of the diagnosis thought that "granny" was just unruly, and did not want to stay at her house, always trying to run away.

After leaving high school in Jamaica with no direct plan, I went to work at one of the hotels where I became ill at work. I went to one of the hospitals away from home and had my appendix surgically removed. The nursing staff were exceptionally caring and that was where my passion for nursing started. I did not return to work and went to nursing school instead.

My experience includes work in hospitals, hotels, home care and community mental health back home in Jamaica and hospitals, nursing homes, home care and rehabs here in the US. I have never had a formal or informal complaint from my patients or family because I never forgot that I was first a patient before I was a nurse. I treat everyone with dignity and respect regardless of race, color, class and creed.

I now want to honor my mother who was not fortunate to get a formal education but ensure all five of her children got the opportunity she did not have. Everyone calls her "Cherry" and she is the most dependable person I know. If you know her, you have no other choice but to love her.

As your loved ones age and lose the ability to care for themselves they deserve the right to safely stay in the comfort of their own homes and receive competent, compassionate and dependable care.
